M7: Open Star Cluster in Scorpius

Explanation: M7 is one of the most prominent open clusters of stars on the sky. The cluster, dominated by bright blue stars, can be seen with the naked eye in a dark sky in the tail of the constellation of the Scorpion (Scorpius). M7 contains about 100 stars in total, is about 200 million years old, spans 25 light-years across, and lies about 1000 light-years away. The above deep exposure was taken from Hakos Farm in Namabia. The M7 star cluster has been known since ancient times, being noted by Ptolemy in the year 130 AD. Also visible are a dark dust cloud and literally millions of unrelated stars towards the Galactic center.

 

M7 : 전갈자리의 산개 성단

 

M7(프톨레마이오스 성단)은 하늘에서 가장 아름다운 성단 중에 하나입니다. 밝고 푸른 별들로 이루어진 이 성단은 전갈자리의 꼬리 부분에 있는데 어두운 하늘에서는 맨눈으로도 볼 수 있답니다.

 

100개 정도의 별들이 모여있는 M7은 태어난지 2억년 정도가 되었습니다. 지름은 25광년으로 지구에서 1000광년 정도 떨어져 있답니다.

 

이 사진은 나미비아(아프리카 대륙의 남쪽에 위치한 나라)의 Hakos 농장에서 찍은 것입니다.

 

M7은 기원전 130년에 프톨레마이오스가 기록해 놓았을 정도로 고대부터 잘 알려진 성단입니다. 또한 성단 주변에서는 어두운 먼지 구름과 은하수 중심에 흩어져 있는 수백만개의 별들도 볼 수 있답니다.
